This summer Saint Petersburg hosts more than one thousand athletes who will take part at the first triathlon long distance race in the Northwestern federal district of Russia. At the press conference Victor Osokin, the head of the Organizing Committee of the A1 TRIATHLON Saint Petersburg, announced the race on the 5TH of July 2015.

"There are many kinds of triathlon. The most important long distance races are held in different countries of the world, but it is an exclusive sport event for Russia. We had something like this but in the Leningrad region. Now we want to change the situation and to do it in Saint Petersburg," he said.

As Mr Osokin said the “The main stage” of the event will be the Petrovsky Arsenal of Sestroreck city. It will have two functions: a transit zone for the athletes to change clothes for the next race stage and the main place for entertainment of spectators.

According to the idea of the organizers the A1 TRIATHLON Saint Petersburg will be a sport event for the whole Saint Petersburg.

In the program of the even in addition to the race there are an exhibition, children competitions and other attractions.

According to Evgeny Nikitin, the manager of this event, professional athlete, the winner of international triathlon competitions, the A1 TRIATHLON Saint Petersburg will become an annual competition. He also said that Kurortny district of Saint Petersburg is selected for the competition on purpose because it has special infrastructure, which allows to organize a race at a high level. “The routes of running and cycling are held in the most beautiful places of Sestroreck. For the swimming we found nice lake called Razliv,” explained Evgeny.

The race has three sequential stages: swimming in open water – 1,9 km, cycle race - 90 km, running – 21 km. Professional as well as amateur athletes take part in this race.

Registration for the taking part in this race will be available from the 30th of March 2015.
